      EARLY WARNING SIGNS

 Don't be fooled, avoidance will not make the the reality of breast cancer go away.      Early detection means a greater chance of survival.

Breast self-examination

  • Do a breast self-examination every month
  • A breast self-examination will take only 10 minutes a month and could save your life.

 When to do a breast self- examination?

  • The best time to examine your breast is one week after your period
  • If you no longer menstruate, choose the same day every month
  • Get to know the size, shape and feel of your breasts. This way you will detect any changes, which could be early signs of breast cancer.

What to do if you find a  change in your breasts

  • Don't panic. If you find a lump deal with it, don't hide it.
  • Even if the lump is cancerous, cancer of the breast today is a curable disease if detected and treated early.
  • See a doctor or visit your clinic as soon as possible
  • A lump does not mean that you have breast cancer.
  • Many lumps are benign, not cancerous, but a doctor should check all lumps.

 Annual Mammogram

  • If you are older than 40 or fall in a high risk category, it is advisable to have a Mammogram every year.
  • If you fall in a high risk category, start doing an annual Mammogram at an early age
  • A Mammogram is an X-ray which can detect breast cancer before the lump is even obvious. It is currently the best way of detecting breast cancer.
